December. My hobbies... Focus on free time.

This is our second topic: My hobbies... Focus on free time.

But...What is a hobby?

A hobby is an activity that you do in your free time for pleasure or relaxation.

For example....

What are your hobbies?

I invite to you to write about your hobbies and the activities that you like doing in your free time; during the week, at the weekends...

These questions can help you to write_
  1. What do you like to do on your free time?  What is your favourite hobby? What do you not like to do in your free time?
  2. Who do you do these hobbies with? Alone? With your parents? With a friend? With a group of friends?
  3. When do you do these hobbies? During the week? After the classes? At the weekends? A specific day of the week? A specific season or month?...
Include a photo of your favourite hobby. And remember... You should give your writing before 12th January.

But first...Steps to do the activity and some examples.

1. Think about which hobbies you do and which hobbies you don't do.
  • What do you like to do in your free time? I like swimming. I like watching TV.
  • What do you not like to do in your free time? I don't like playing chess. I don't like singing.
  • What is your favourite hobby? My favourite hobby is drawing.
        Remember:
           - After like we use the verb in gerund (-ing)!
           - You can use a gerund (infinitive + -ing) as a noun of one activity.

Organise your ideas, any aspect can be linked with another? Yes? No?
Yes, You can link the different action that you like and you can also link the different actions that    you do not like.
Your favourite hobby or favourite hobbies can be said after what you like doing.

2. WHO do you do these hobbies WITH? Alone? With your parents? With a friend? With a group of friends?
You can "practise" a hobby alone or with somebody. So, using the hobbies presented at the beginning we can classify them in...

Using the activities that you like doing...
  • Who do you usually swim with? I usually swim alone.
  • Who do you usually watch TV with?  I usually watch TV with my parents.
  • Who do you usually draw with? I usually draw alone.

3. And WHEN do you practise your hobbies?
Wordle: Time Expressions You can do these actions when you don't have to study or do the homework, after school classes, at the weekends... YOUR FREE TIME!!!
You can use the adverbs of frequency or time expressions worked in class to tell when you practise your hobbies.

Remember these rules:
  • Capital letter the first letter of the day of the week and ON before "the day": I swim alone on Saturdays.
  • AT before a time: I watch TV with my parents at half past nine.
  • The adverb of frequency goes before the main verb: I usually watch TV with my parents at half past nine.  I never play chess or sing.
  • Use a time expression: in the mornings, in the afternoon, in the evening, at night, after school classes, before going to bed,..: I usually swim alone on Saturdays morning. I usually watch TV with my parents after dinner  at half past nine.

4. Check your writing... Aspects to consider:
  • In every sentence is there a subject and a verb?
  • The correct verb tense and verb? Use of the auxiliary in negative sentences? Use the gerund after like?
  • Capital letter the first letter of each sentence?
  • Every sentence finish with a dot?
  • Check the spelling of the words!
5. Now include a photo of your favourite hobby and send me your work!
And that's all!

Example:

My hobbies... Focus on free time.

I like swimming and watching TV. But my favourite hobby is drawing.
I don't like playing chess or singing.
I usually watch TV with my parents after dinner at half past nine. But I normally swim and draw alone. I often swim on Saturdays.  I never play chess or sing because I do not like them.
